This morning Patricia Drackett, Director of The Crosby Arboretum (MSU) located in Picayune, MS, paid a visit to Hill Memorial Library. Drackett, a fan of Margaret Stones and her paintings, came to LSU to view the current exhibition, “Late Bloomers.” Stones toured the Mississippi State University facility in 1987 while working on the Flora of Louisiana project, as the arboretum features many plants that are native to Louisiana.

Storm Stories: Oral History and Best Practices

Friday, December 14th, 2012

Jennifer Abraham Cramer, Director of the T. Harry Williams Center for Oral History, is quoted in today’s Oral History Review blog post, “Oral History in Disaster Zones.” The post’s author, Caitlin Tyler-Richards, encourages anyone considering conducting oral history after a natural disaster to take Cramer’s advice, and “print [it] out and tape to their walls.” Cramer advocates for those conducting oral history projects to follow the Oral History Association’s principles and best practices to ensure the creation of high-quality primary sources while being sensitive to interviewees as they make sense of their experiences, particularly those that are recent and potentially traumatic.

Cramer serves as the Media and Non-Print Review Editor of The Oral History Review. She can be reached at LSU Libraries’ Special Collections via phone at (225) 578-7439 and by email at jabrah1@lsu.edu.
